EMPLOYEE RELATIONS SPECIALIST
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS SPECIALIST
I’ve come to realise there’s a need in business for good, honest HR advice. Furthermore, I believe the best practical application of this comes from years of hands-on experience.
After years of experience in this field, from both employer & employee perspectives, I provide businesses with top class HR advice.
I’m MCIPD qualified. I gained my full CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) qualifications in 2008, and achieved Chartered status in 2012. I maintain professional membership and am committed to the high standards and ethical compliance represented by the CIPD as the professional body for HR.
I’ve had the opportunity to work in senior HR roles over the years, and today get huge satisfaction from bringing my expertise to companies as a consultant.
In addition to my work as an HR consultant, I have sat for several years as a lay member on Employment Tribunals, as part of the adjudicating panel. As well as the inevitable Employment Law experience, this work gives me an invaluable insight into a variety of sectors. Above all it provides me with a unique opportunity to explore employment law issues from an alternative angle.
Where does “Mustard” come into it?
The name Mustard HR has come about from a real effort to encapsulate all the qualities of the consultancy services I strive to provide. These include tenacity, integrity, authenticity and a no-nonsense, honest, ‘getting things done’ approach.
All this led me to the phrases “cutting to the chase” and finally “cutting the mustard.” Given the connotations of competency and success this phrase brings to mind, not forgetting of course the association mustard has with East Anglia, this felt like a good fit.
Hence ‘Mustard HR’ was born. A punchy and hopefully memorable name; a warm, ‘human’ HR Consultant.
Who are you?
You run or help run a successful business (and do an excellent job!). You employ staff but you can’t justify a dedicated HR resource. As the business has grown and evolved, the people-management aspects have become increasingly time consuming and can at times feel overwhelming.
Whilst positive Employee Relations (with high levels of employee involvement, commitment and engagement), is obviously the optimum, life isn’t always plain sailing. Sometimes things can go wrong. Furthermore, people can be unpredictable and you may on occasion be left with a problem on your hands that you just don’t feel equipped to deal with alone.
You might have previously used HR helplines or similar services to assist you with the people issues facing you. You probably found that they are not only costly but can be very risk-averse in terms of Employment Law and are often impersonal. You need a real person with the experience and know-how for you to tap into as and when needed. A consultant who you can rely on to assist you in the right way for your business, because they know your business.
With proven experience, Mustard HR can help you the employer to solve these problems and more importantly, find ways to avoid them occurring in future. Because helping you to strengthen and/or build upon your Employee Relations leaves you with the time and energy to concentrate on what you are best at – running the business!
Values
Your business doesn’t need to sit within a particular sector in order for Mustard HR to assist you. Most Employee Relations “problems” require very similar (transferrable) skills and experience. What is important are your values. To ensure a good working relationship and all-round general ‘fit’, Mustard HR prefers to work with clients with similar values (i.e. straight talking, honest and upfront). If that’s you and you feel that your business might benefit from working with Mustard HR, please don’t hesitate to get in touch for an informal chat.
