It became apparent to the organisation that inherited pay structures were not fit for purpose.
I analysed the shortcomings of the existing arrangements and identified the main issues which were around equal pay, market rates and eroded differentials.
I then oversaw a comprehensive pay review which put forward proposals to make significant changes, taking into account the benefits and cost of each and the risks in not doing so (potential employee relations issues, equal pay claims). After gaining approval and successful consultation with Trade Unions as part of pay negotiations, this resulted in implementation of a new transparent pay system and a dramatically reduced risk of future challenge.
